Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has recently hinted that the new Tesla Roadster or “Tesla Roadster 4.0” may be capable of doing 0 to 60 in under 2 seconds.
Tesla likes to reference the movie “Spaceballs” for their performance modes, like “Ludicrous Mode”. However, Elon Musk recently said that they are reserving “Maximum Plaid” mode for the next generation of the Tesla Roadster, which Musk has hinted on Twitter may be able to do 0-60 in under 2 seconds.
Tesla’s Model S P100D Ludicrous is already the “Quickest Production Car in the World”. The company lists the vehicle with an acceleration of 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds, though some owners have managed to achieve 0-60 in only 2.3 seconds. However, the Tesla Roadster 4.0 will be a much smaller, lighter, more aerodynamic vehicle than the Model S P100D, meaning that the vehicle has a good chance of doing 0 to 60 in under 2 seconds.
That would an interesting target. Would, of course, only count if capable of doing so right off the production line with street legal tires.

The next generation Tesla Roadster was announced 3 years ago, only a few years of the company discontinued production of the original Roadster in 2012. The vehicle was left out of Elon Musk’s product plan this year, but apparently, the vehicle is still being planned for production.
Tesla’s Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen recently spoke about the upcoming Roadster at an event with Tesla owners earlier this month. While he couldn’t confirm anything, he mentioned his favorite cars are sport cars and he wants to design another one. Holzhausen arrived at Tesla after the launch of the Roadster, but now he may have his chance to make a mark on the next generation of the product.
